A true Patagonian outpost, La Hoya Ski and Snowboard Resort receives some of the driest powder in Argentina. La Hoya is an off the beaten track, mom & pop, community operated ski and snowboard playground with plenty of tantalizing terrain to choose from and a gem for off-piste enthusiasts. La Hoya’s name comes from its mountain shape, which is a large, circular glacial basin. Its summit reaches 1850m (6000ft) and frequently receives cold smoke powder that stays around late into the South American ski season.

Couloirs with jagged teeth piercing through the snow are some of the most dramatic aesthetics here. Its upper lifts bring skiers and snowboarders to an enormous cirque where all types of terrain can be accessed via short traverses along the bowl’s ridgeline.
Pioneers began skiing La Hoya in the 1930’s and it still remains a true frontier experience. Located near Butch Cassidy’s hideout, the town of Esquel serves as our La Hoya base. Esquel is the gateway to Los Alerces National Park and the terminus for the famous narrow gauged Old Patagonian Express railway. If you are looking for a chance to travel back in time and ski or snowboard some really great terrain and snow than La Hoya is not to be missed.
