Ushuaia, Argentina
Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world, is located on the Beagle Channel with1500-meter glacial peaks rising from the sea. It became famous through the voyages of Magellan, Darwin and Fitzroy and today is an epicenter for adventurous travelers. Certainly one of the most unique ski and snowboard destinations in the world, Ushuaia offers plenty of opportunity for resort riding as well as backcountry touring.
Cerro Castor Ski Center is just up the valley from the port of Ushuaia. The base area is tucked into the fuegian forests and rises up into the alpine mountains of Tierra del Fuego. Glacier Martial sits above the center of town and looks out toward the Beagle Channel and the passage to Antarctica. The island of Tierra del Fuego or Land of Fire is a magical place where massive, snowy mountains meet the ocean.
A bustling port town Ushuaia is main hub for the transport of goods around the Cape Horn. The city has many fine restaurants featuring its local seafood fare.
