The Powder Triangle – Ski in Argentina

Che? It means “cool” in Argentina, and you’ll find yourself saying it a lot while skiing and snowboarding at Cerro Catedral, Cerro Bayo, and Chapelco; or eating, wine tasting, and partying in Bariloche and San Martin de los Andes.

CASA Tours is proud to offer an 9 day tour of the Southern Argentine volcanoes, featuring amazing scenery, cuisine, culture, and some of the best skiing and snowboarding in South America. This trip starts and ends in Bariloche, where we ski and ride at Cerro Catedral, home of great tree skiing and predictably good powder conditions. We road trip north to San Martin de los Andes, soaking in amazing views while traveling through Argentina’s Seven Lakes area. In San Martin, we ski / ride Chapelco, exploring off-piste terrain, then head to La Angostura to challenge ourselves in the backcountry at Cerro Bayo.

Join us for a skiing, snowboarding, and cultural road trip through a beautiful part of Patagonia, and experience the best of Argentina in true CASA Tours style.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival In Bariloche

Guests must arrange flights to San Carlos de Bariloche airport from Buenos Aires. Here they are met by CASA guides and taken to your lakeside Bariloche accommodation. Tonight we have a trip orientation and welcome dinner at one of Bariloche’s local restaurants. Early arrivals are welcome.

Days 2-3 – Bariloche – Ski/Ride Cerro Catedral

We spend 2 days at Cerro Catedral, a modern ski center with a distinctly European feel featuring over 3,000 acres of on piste terrain, extensive lift-accessed backcountry steeps, and some of the most spectacular scenery imaginable. The Powder Gods have been very good to us here. In the evenings we experience Bariloche’s lively nightlife and excellent eateries featuring local Patagonian trout, lamb and beef to go with its fabulous vino.

Days 4-6 – San Martin – Ski / Ride Chapelco

Depending on weather conditions we have the opportunity for a morning ski at Cerro Catedral before traveling north along the Rio Limay to San Martin de los Andes, a classy Argentine lakeside retreat and the base for Chapelco ski center. For 2 days we ski/ride this family orientated mountain with surprisingly good tree skiing and backcountry access as well as gentle cruisers, mellow open bowls and plenty of fresh tracks for all. Our elegant hotel is downtown close to all the evening action.

Days 7-8 – La Angostura – Ski / Ride Cerro Bayo

Enjoy a relaxed morning in San Martin before traveling to La Angostura and our final ski destination, Cerro Bayo. A small, ‘boutique’ ski resort, Cerro Bayo offers spectacular vistas of Lago Nahuel Huapi and the surrounding mountains of Argentina’s 1st national park. For those eager a short hike along the summit ridge gains access to superb powder terrain. A celebratory farewell asado ends our tour in true Argentine tradition.

Day 9 – Departure Day – Return to Bariloche

After breakfast, we travel back along the shores of Lago Nahuel Huapi to San Carlos de Bariloche airport in time for guests returning flights to Buenos Aires.
