Our 12-day Southern Cross tours through some of the most spectacular scenery and volcano skiing in Chile. We begin in Santiago before traveling south to Nevados de Chillan for 3 days at Chile’s powder capital. Our journey continues south into Chile’s Aruacania district, a Jurassic Park like playground for snow lovers covered in stands of monkey-puzzle trees and dotted by glacial lakes and conical volcanoes.

Corralco, a remote ski center at the base of Volcan Lonquimay offers an impressive lift system and a multitude of touring opportunities. We finish in the adventure hub of Pucon and the slopes of Chile’s most active volcano, Villarrica, where we attempt to summit and descend from it’s lava spewing peak. Along the way we sample the Chilean cuisine, Mapuche native culture, soak in hotsprings, and travel through wild landscapes while skiing and snowboarding deep into the belly of Chile’s Ring of Fire.

Guests are encouraged to bring backcountry touring gear for several adventure opportunities including climbing snow covered volcano peaks. This is a great itinerary for those looking to earn some turns while visiting one of the most beautiful regions in Chile.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 -Travel to Las Trancas – Ski/Ride Nevados De Chillan

After gathering guests at their Santiago hotels we journey south to the powder capital of Chile, Nevados de Chillan. En route we stop at the Miguel Torres winery for a 4 course lunch and wine pairing before continuing to the ski pueblo of Las Trancas.  We spend 4 nights in this magical forested valley, where huge storms are known to settle in!

Days 2-4 – Ski/Ride Nevados De Chillan

For 3 full days we explore our favorite ski resort in Chile, Nevados de Chillan. The resort offers thousands of vertical feet to descend; a lunar-like landscape including 3 volcanic peaks; and continues to be a relatively ‘undiscovered’ snow paradise. Nevados features everything from long groomed slopes and the gentle Tres Marias lava tubes to adventurous steeps in the Pirigallo Valley and steaming summits of the Chillan volcanoes. Our evenings are spent celebrating our day in true Chilean style.

Day 5 – Travel to Malacahuello – Ski/Ride – Corralco

After visiting the famous Chillan markets, we continue further south into Chile’s volcanic ring of fire. Located at the base of Volcan Lonquimay and amongst stands of ancient Araucaria trees lays Corralco. Offering wide-open volcanic slopes and plenty of touring opportunities we spend 3 days enjoying this off the beaten track Chilean gem.  We compliment our days on the mountain with hot springs soaks and more authentic Chilean hospitality.

Days 6-8 – Ski/Ride – Corralco – Volcan Lonquimay

Situated on Volcan Lonquimay, Corralco is an expansive mountain playground.  The newly installed Cumbre lift accesses 3000 foot/ 1000 meter descents and wide open volcanic bowls.  With stunning views of the surrounding volcanoes Llaima, Villarrica, and Lanin, Corralco lies deep in the belly of Chile’s Ring of Fire.  Surrounded by Conquillo National Park and its famous monkey puzzle forests, Corralco offers the sublime beauty of these ancient native groves of Chile’s national tree with the massive volcanic landscape of Volcan Lonquimay.  With the addition of the new lift infrastructure and excellent spring time corn harvesting, Corralco is the perfect destination for an Endless Winter.

Days 9-11 – Travel to Pucon – Ski/Ride Pucon – Volcan Villarrica

Pucon, an outdoor paradise and the adventure capital of Chile, gives us access to Volcan Villarrica, the most active volcano in Chile. We spend 2 days skiing/riding its lava flows and attempting to summit its caldera peak while taking in 360-degree views of lakes, araucaria forests and snow capped volcanic cones. With a variety of superb restaurants and magical natural hot springs, Pucon is the ideal spot to finish our Southern Cross tour.

Day 12 – Departure – Return to Santiago

We say goodbye to Pucon and transfer to the city of Temuco for our flight back to Santiago International airport in time for evening return flights home.

PLEASE SCHEDULE DEPARTING FLIGHTS AFTER 7PM.
